MAXINE KUMIN was born on June 6, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In 1973 she won the PULITZER PRIZE FOR POETRY for her collection "UP COUNTRY."
She was appointed the U.S. Poet Laureate from 1981-82.
