EMMA LAZARUS was born on July 22, 1849 in NEW YORK CITY.
Her poem "THE NEW COLOSSUS," written in 1883, appears on a bronze plaque which was placed in the pedestal of the STATUE OF LIBERTY in 1903.
Emma Lazarus died in 1887.
