The Open Door series presents work from Chicago’s new and emerging poets and highlights the area’s outstanding writing programs. April's reading presents Northwestern University's Averill Curdy and her student Lauren Schlesinger along with Concordia University’s Peter Kahn and his student Asia Calcagno.

Haki Madhubuti will introduce a reading by Kelly Norman Ellis, Calvin Forbes, Angela Jackson, and Roger Reeves. The event, which will include music and a reception, is co-presented by the independent literary magazine Fifth Wednesday Journal.

Dana Gioia is an internationally acclaimed poet, critic, and librettist. The former chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, Gioia has published four full-length collections of poetry, most recently Pity the Beautiful.
